One person has tragically died following a serious crash involving a tanker truck along Route 28 in Boggs Township, Armstrong County, on Wednesday afternoon. Authorities confirmed that the incident has prompted road closures and detours as first responders work to secure the scene.
PennDOT officials reported that Route 28/66 remains closed between Route 1027 and Route 1018, as well as at the intersection with Hoover Road. Emergency personnel, including local fire and police, are on site managing the situation and working to clear the wreckage. Sky 4, Pittsburgh’s only news helicopter, captured images of the tanker truck resting over a hillside alongside the roadway.
The Armstrong County coroner confirmed the death of one individual as a result of the crash. Drivers are being asked to follow established detours while the investigation and cleanup continue. Southbound travelers on Route 28/66 are advised to use Route 1016 (Calhoun School Road) to Belnap and then reconnect to Route 1018 to return to Route 28. Northbound drivers are advised to follow the reverse of this route. Commercial vehicles are directed to detour via Route 861 out of New Bethlehem to Route 68 in Rimersburg, then Route 422 in Butler, before rejoining Route 28.
Authorities urge all drivers to avoid the area if possible. The cause of the crash remains under investigation, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
