Scott Aiges defined the role of a music critic at The Times-Picayune, becoming the newspaper’s first full-time pop music critic. His writing elevated artists, informed readers, and captured the spirit of a city rich in culture and creativity.
Beyond journalism, Scott’s contributions to music extended to producing festivals for the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation and managing bands, supporting musicians in every aspect of their careers. His dedication to fostering music went hand in hand with his love of teaching. After moving to Denver in 2019, he earned a master’s degree in education and shared his knowledge of civics and financial literacy with high school students in Aurora, leaving an indelible mark on the next generation.
Scott’s life was characterized by curiosity, courage, and a relentless commitment to his passions. From his early years as a political science graduate at Columbia University and a freelance journalist covering Nicaragua, to his decades advocating for music and educating young people, he demonstrated integrity, empathy, and a deep sense of purpose.
His family, including his wife Lisanne Brown, were his unwavering support, especially during his illness. Tributes such as the “Rock For Aiges” benefit at Tipitina’s celebrate not only his love for music but also the enduring connections he cultivated throughout his life.
